2011 Junior High (K-9) National Chess Championship Results


The results are in from the 2011 NATIONAL JUNIOR HIGH CHAMPIONSHIP and there is a lot to report. 16 players forming 4 teams from Western New York traveled to Columbus, Ohio and put on their game faces against the best K thru 9th grade, chess players in the U.S in their corresponding teams. The teams were split into their designated sections according to the United States Chess Federation (USCF) rating system. Out of 326 teams participating the results were as follows for the Western New York Teams:


Taking 17th place in the U750 team section from Global Concepts Charter School were: NICHOLAS IVON (3.5pts), ROMAN CASTLE (3.5pts), SABRINA CAMPBELL (3.5pts), MEGAN MELOON (2.5pts), ENYA CIRILLO (1.5pts).

Taking 19th place in the U1250 team section from Global Concepts Charter School were: JACOB MELOON (3.5pts), DAVID PRIMOSCH (2pts), MASON COLEMAN (1.5pts), HUNTER WEBER (1.5pts).

Taking 13th place in the K-9 Championship section from Pioneer Central School were:
AUSTIN KOSSOW (2pts), NATHAN PALMISANO (2pts), RYAN PALMISANO (2pts). Coached by Tom Warner.

Taking 29th place in the U1000 section a home schooled team made up of two brothers KEVIN LYLE (3pts) and REAGAN LYLE (1pt).


Let us not forget also participating individually were Samuel Santora (4.5pts) and Alexander Campbell (3pts).


The USCF also sponsored a Parents and Friends Tournament on the second day of competition. The USCF took the scores of the parent or friend and combined them with the players score. Western New York had two Mothers win this tournament. In the Rated section Rosemary Warner and Austin Kossow took 1st Place. In the Unrated section Lynn Weber and Hunter Weber took 1st Place. This is Mrs. Weber’s second trophy in this competition she defended her title from last years’ nationals.
