The Tournament was a great success thanks to all our Parents, Players and Volunteers. We had 28 participants who tried their best at chess. The Players were divided by ability and USCF Ratings. Therefor our winners were.....drum roll please....

The Under 700 Group:

HALLOWEEN CHESS TOURNAMENT 2009

Global Concepts Chess Club hosted their second annual Halloween Chess Tournament this past Saturday the 24th of October. We had a record high attendance of 39 chess players all dressed up in their spooky and entertaining costumes. The participants enjoyed pizza, beverages, cookies, and candy from our Pinata made kindly by Mrs. Cirillo. The parent volunteers were Mrs. Mellon, Mrs. Weber, Miss. Block, Miss Ahmed, Mrs. Santora, Mr. Harvey, and Mrs. Dent and to all others present a huge THANK YOU... for without your assistance this tournament would have been crazy scary.

The players were divided into three sections depending on their abilities. The first section "The Vampires" consisted of USCF players rated 700 or higher. The second section "The Werewolves" consisted of USCF players rated under 700, and our final section were "The Zombies" which were all our newcomers who do not have a USCF membership yet.

I usually take 90 west to exit 55 stay to your right and make a right onto Ridge Road.... Pass Abbott Road and the school is on the left hand side across from the cementary. If you get to the Basilica of Our Lady of Victory you went to far.

Great attendance, biggest outing so far.... 39 Players. Everyone enjoyed the evening and ate tacos...DELICIOSOS...made by our volunteer parents:The Webers, Meloons, Harveys, Blocks, Abuhamras, and Shamrocks...THE GCCC THANKS YOU VERY MUCH.

Summer Bash Results

WOW SUMMER is almost over but our chess bash was fun.....
Winners were KAYLA ROSE BLOCK and JACOB MELOON.
We all had a great time using the auditorium for the first time in a chess tournament, which was a last moment change, but no problem arose, the Meloon's, Elliott and Cirillo's pitched in, and it went flawlessly. Thank you all for the support......now here is how it ended up.

Welcome Back Students

Hope you all had a great summer, even though we got a lot of rain.
Well here is the first order of business for the chess club and what is new.

A new memberships fee of $5.00.
Their will be NO morning chess due to hallway duties.
The after school chess day will be Thursdays 3:50 pm to 4:50pm.
In School we will meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:05 to 3:30pm(more information to come on who attends on each day).
Returning and New Members must Register before the second week when we will re-start our club meetings.
Members will need specific hall passes to come to the chess room.
Our First Tournament will be on September 25th from 4pm to 7pm.

Chess Summer Bash, Interscholastic Chess Tournament

Date & Time: July 13TH, starts promptly at 8:30am until approximately 12:00pm.
Location: Global Concepts Charter School, 1001 Ridge Road, Lackawanna, NY 14218.

Bring your own chess set and clock (GCCC will provide only 10 sets).Play as many rounds before 12:00pm.
Late arrivals will receive a ½ pt. bye and/or no shows will be withdrawn from the tournament after 1st round.

Section #1 (U1200): $5.00 Nonrefundable fee (must have a valid USCF membership)
USCF Rated section 4 or more rounds G/30, with Medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
Section #2 (U600): $5.00 Nonrefundable fee (must have a valid USCF membership)
Under 500 USCF rated section 4 or more rounds G/30, with Medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
Section #3 (Unrated): $5.00 Nonrefundable fee (for Non-USCF members)
Unrated section 4 or more rounds G/30, with Medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

Halloween Tournament Results

The First Halloween Chess Tournament was a HUGE SUCCESS. The children had a great time despite hosting the tournament after such a sugar filled and busy holiday. We had 32 players show up enthusiastically ready to show their stuff in the game of chess. We had aha moments and some sad ones as well, but overall we made more friends and learned from our mistakes.
